File Preparation

Before uploading: a closed (watertight) model, correct units (mm), one part per file, sufficient STL resolution. We accept STL, STEP, STP and OBJ.

Checklist

  • Closed model – no holes in the surface (watertight). The configurator checks this.
  • Units – STL has no units; export in millimeters. If the dimensions look unusual, the configurator will suggest a correction.
  • One part – one file – you can then choose the material and quantity for each.
  • STEP – the best choice if you have a CAD model: the original is exact.
  • Resolution – see STL resolution.

What the automatic analysis checks

  • Open surfaces (unpaired edges).
  • Non-manifold edges.
  • Inverted normals.
  • Multiple separate bodies in a file.
  • Zero-area triangles, very high triangle counts.

If problems are found, an engineer reviews the model.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What should I do if the model is not watertight?

Usually it is enough to re-export from CAD (in STEP format). If that does not work, upload it anyway – an engineer will assess it and fix it if needed.
