PP Polypropylene

Polypropylene (PP) is a lightweight, chemical-resistant plastic (MJF) widely used in moulded products. 3D printed PP is suitable for containers, tubing, fluid systems and prototypes that must match a moulded PP product.

When to choose

A good fit when…

  • the part comes into contact with chemicals, acids or alkalis
  • you need a lightweight, watertight part
  • you are prototyping a product that will later be moulded in PP
When not to

Choose something else when…

  • you need high temperature resistance (PP – up to ~70 °C)
  • you need high stiffness
Design recommendations

Designing in PP Polypropylene

Design guide

Walls

Minimum 0.75 mm (down to 0.5 mm in places). Load-bearing walls – from 1.5–2 mm.

Cavities

Leave at least one 2–3 mm opening in closed cavities to remove powder; several for larger cavities.

Clearances

At least 0.5–1 mm between separate moving parts, so they do not fuse together.

Properties

PP is low density, resistant to most chemicals and to moisture, and slightly flexible. Service temperature per datasheet – up to ~70 °C. Colours: grey, black.
