Not sure which material you need?
No need to know MJF, SLS, SLA or FDM. Select what matters – we’ll show the 2–3 best options from our catalogue.
How to read the properties
- Tensile strength (MPa) – the stress a material withstands before it breaks. For functional parts, 40–50 MPa is usually enough.
- Elongation at break (%) – how far a material stretches before it breaks. High elongation means less brittle and better suited to snap-fits and hinges.
- Tensile modulus (MPa) – stiffness. Higher means less bending.
- Service temperature – an indicative limit up to which the part keeps its shape. For a specific load and environment, consult an engineer.
Values are taken from manufacturer datasheets and depend on the test method and build orientation. Values marked “to be confirmed” are being checked against manufacturer data.
About materials
Which material is suitable for functional parts?
Most often PA12 or PA11 nylon (MJF or SLS): strong, chemical resistant and suitable for batches. For higher stiffness – PA12 GB or PA GF; for heat – PEEK or ULTEM™.
Which material is flexible?
TPU elastomer (MJF, SLS, FDM) and Flex resin (SLA). A living hinge in a rigid plastic is best made from PP or PA11.
Can I choose a colour?
Yes, depending on the material: nylons – natural grey or black (dyed), some in white; FDM plastics – a range of colours; spray painting – in the colour of your choice.
