TPU Hardness Guide: The Shore A Scale

TPU hardness is measured on the Shore A scale: the lower the number, the softer the material. Our MJF TPU is about 88–90A (like a shoe sole), SLS TPU/TPE is 70–90A, and SLA Flex resin is 50–80A.

What the numbers mean

  • ~50–60A – soft, like a pencil eraser.
  • ~70–80A – medium, like a car tire.
  • ~85–90A – hard rubber, like a shoe sole.

Flexibility = material + geometry

The same TPU part can be soft or firm depending on wall thickness and lattice structure. MJF and SLS can produce shock-absorbing lattices without supports.
